Understanding No Froth
Frothing needs three things: dry steam, clean air holes, and milk with enough protein. If the wand is blocked or the machine produces wet steam, the milk heats instead of frothing. Milk that is too warm or low-fat also produces weak foam.
Universal Troubleshooting Steps
These steps work across all major brands:
- Purge the steam wand for 5 seconds before frothing to clear condensation.
- Clean the frothing nozzle and its air hole with the cleaning pin.
- Use cold whole milk; place the tip just below the surface and keep it angled.
- If froth is still weak, check the steam pressure and descale the boiler.
